The South Tyrolean Gardena Valley, situated in the middle of the 3,000 m high Dolomites, is the home of a particularly impressive nativity scene composition, the extensive Deur nativity scene. All 61 wooden figures and animals are elaborately designed in baroque style. The expressive poses catch the eye at first glance. The curly splendor of hair and beards is complemented by flowing, multi-layered robes. This gives all nativity figures a liveliness that is unparalleled. With the personified figures of the Holy Family, shepherds, kings and children, many traditional scenes from the Christmas story can be recreated.
